"We've had two plumbing issues in our home over the last couple years that resulted in us making water damage claims (~$6k total, so relatively small). Just got a letter saying that due to these claims, State Farm is dropping our homeowner's insurance, and that we are basically 'uninsurable' because we've made two water claims. I don't blame the local office for this; I understand that underwriting is out of their hands. However, at no point in any of our claims processes did our local office mention anything like, "hey, you might want to consider paying for this relatively small damage out of pocket, because making claims could mean YOU GET DROPPED and NOBODY WILL INSURE YOUR HOUSE". We just made the claims, because... that's what insurance is there for, right? We figured our rates might go up a bit, but that's all. We've learned the hard way that's not the case. Blame us for being ignorant of how this all works if you'd like, but this is absolutely something that "a good neighbor" could have explained to us before we made these claims. Now we'll be lucky if we can find insurance coverage at double the cost we had before, and that's after jumping through a bunch of extra hoops. I hope you have a better experience than we did, if you end up using these folks. If you never have to make any claims, maybe it'll be fine! If you do have problems, think twice before making claims."
